Workshops And Walks

Workshops and forays are my bread and butter! They are one of my favourite ways to bring science communication and participatory arts together.

I have led workshops and forays across the UK, fuelled by my passion for making complex and often inaccessible scientific topics fun, engaging and creative.

As both an artist and scientist I’m a bit different to your “typical” science communicator. I mix together interactive talks with creative workshops – combining hands-on learning with play-driven creativity for all ages.

I specialise in queer ecology, and have a particular love of Fungi and other underappreciated non-human neighbours. My talks and workshops mix in local folklore, queer theory, fungal ID, biology ecology, and self expression.

There are a range of ready to go workshops and walks available below, but I always love putting together new and bespoke workshops too.

Ready to Go Workshops and Walks

  • Queer Fungi Workshop

Did you know that some fungi have over 23,000 sexes? Or that fungi were seen as “less important” than plants because scientists couldn’t categorise them?

In this workshop we explore the wonderfully queer world of fungi, dismantling ideas of individualism, binaries and hierarchy's and learning some fungi biology, ecology and folklore too.

Always included is a creative element such as zine making, clay sculpting, fungi printing, or designing your own fungi.

  • Guided Fungi Walk

Do you know your fly agaric from your fairy ink cap? Have you ever wondered what fungi actually do?

Join Izzy outdoors to meet some local fungi, learn a bit about fungal ID, exploring fungi’s role in their ecosystems, and delving into queer ecology, history and folklore.

We may even talk about some plants and mosses too!

Each walk is different and exact topics covered dependent on which fungi are fruiting.

  • Inter species interactions Workshop

Is there such thing as an individual? How can we as humans learn from an interconnected natural world?

A creative workshop designed to explore symbiosis and interconnection in the natural world. We’ll start with an Oak tree and explore the mutualism of some of thousands of species in a forest system.

This workshop then invited participants to look at human organising and community building through this lens and create with clay.
