Safer Spaces Allyship Scheme

What is a safe space? How can we make Monmouth a safer place?

Young people in Monmouth felt unsafe in many spaces, so Queering the Wye worked on a scheme where young people collaborated on a training resource pack to guide staff in local businesses on how to deal with discrimination and support them.

For my part in the Safer Spaces Allyship Project, I created two workshops to explore the idea of safe spaces. Together with young people from the Building Bridges Project, we looked at what they consider makes a safe space, where their safe spaces are, and how we might make Monmouth a safer space to be themselves. These workshops were a mix of group discussion and creative activity. We looked at poetry in workshop one and collaging in workshop two. I also created a collage based on what participants said were their safe spaces to be used in the Zine.
