Carnedd Community Garden?
What can we create? Is there such thing as an individual?
A project cut short by eviction, but one that I hope will live on again in the future it was great even briefly to be able to explore what a community of people could make out of space if given an opportunity.
Carnedd community garden? Came to life when group of artist collectives, with the help of Axis, moved into a large office building at Wilcox house, which then became Carrnedd. There was an abundance of outdoor space with a treelined carpark and grass verges hosting an abundance of biodiversity and potential.
Using funding from the WWF Cymru community fund and working with Cardiff Umbrella I put together workshops for Great Big Green Week. First we looked at symbiosis and interconnectedness, in nature and the second we conducted an initial co-design workshop with people who utilised space at Carnedd. I also conducted a short bioblitz to see what other species we shared the space with (over 37 in one shallow survey!)
Unfortunately less than a year after moving into Wicox house Carnedd was evicted, so there’s not much chance of a Carnedd community garden anytime soon. However, I am hopeful that a new space/spaces will come together for the artist collectives who make up Carnedd and the ideas generated from this short project will live on again.
